Brian Beaton, the co-founder of the TTRU, has moved to Pittsburgh as Assistant Professor at the School of Information Studies at the University of Pittsburgh. Brian graduate this summer having written a wonderful dissertation titled Everyday Data, for which Jackie rr acted as external examiner. The work joins cultural history with technoscience studies and media archaeology to think about the everyday practices in which people in the late analogue period of the 1970s gathered data about themselves and others Brian has also been selected as a Visiting Gaming Research Fellow at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) Center for Gaming Research. As a fellow, he will spend be tworking on a project entitled “Drawing Crowds to Citizen Science: Data Collection and Analysis as Everyday Gaming,” which looks at the history, culture, and politics of web-based scientific gaming (e.g. Phylo, Foldit, etc.), citizen science, and the crowdsourcing of biomedical and scientific research.
